Chapter Philanthropy and Service

St. Jude treats children without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay. It is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never receive a hospital bill. We are thrilled to be partnered with such an incredible organization that makes such a huge impact in children’s lives.

In the fall we host Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP), where the Sooner Family rolls out to enjoy a pancake buffet on the morning of a big football game! This event is full crimson, cream, and a lot of energy as Sooner fans show up to prep for the game and fundraise for St. Jude.

As well, we hold our annual letter-writing campaign, “Sincerely Yours.” Each member of our chapter writes 50 letters to their family, friends, former teachers, and fellow students mentioning why we support St. Jude and asking for donations to aid in their fight against childhood cancer. Although this event seems small, it is one of the most impactful fundraisers we have every year as we receive donations and support from all over the nation.

In the spring, we partner with the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon to host Coffee House and Desserts. During this event, we set up an outdoor stage for members and other students from all over campus to perform songs and do karaoke. We have an endless supply of coffee and sweets available, and it’s a fun way to bring together the OU community for a great philanthropy. In 2020, we adjusted the event for the pandemic. We had members sign up to perform via Instagram Live and accepted donations via Venmo. This was a special way to include everyone in our chapter and still raise money for St. Jude.

Our second fundraising event in the Spring is a 24-Hour Social Media Push, where members of Tri Delta post on social media accounts asking for donations at the same time, and we see how much money we can raise for St. Jude in 24 hours. This is an incredible event, as the generosity of friends and family allows us to raise so much money in a short amount of time. Last year, we were able to raise over $45,000 in 24 hours! Theta Gamma was the first Tri Delta chapter to put on a 24-hour push day like this and, because of our success, it is now an event chapter across the nation host. This was an amazing accomplishment for our chapter, and could not be accomplished without the support of friends and family. The members of Tri Delta are incredibly passionate about St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, which is evident in the success of our fundraising efforts every year.

In addition to supporting our campus and national philanthropies, we also love contributing to our alumni’s philanthropy in the annual event, Art with a Heart. This event showcases art from the patients of the OU Children’s Hospital. In preparation for this event, members of Tri Delta go to the hospital for Art Creation Days where they get to spend time with the children and help them create their masterpieces that will be auctioned off at the event.

As the semester is progressing we look forward to continuing to emphasize the importance of giving back to the community through philanthropic events while continuing to build upon our values of sisterhood and friendship.
