It has been our honor and pleasure to serve as Philanthropy Chairmen for the Theta Gamma chapter of Delta Delta Delta this year. We take immense pride in representing an organization that holds our national philanthropy near and dear to our hearts. St. Jude treats children without regard to race, religion, creed or ability to pay. It is the only pediatric cancer research center where families never receive a hospital bill. We are thrilled to be partnered with such an incredible organization that makes such a huge impact in children’s lives.
Just recently Theta Gamma hosted our first annual St. Jude Gala, our newest philanthropy event to help raise funds for St. Jude. This event targeted not only our current members but also parents and local alumnae. The event was a great opportunity for our chapter to develop an even greater appreciation for St. Jude. In the fall we host Delta House of Pancakes (DHOP), where the Sooner Family rolls out to enjoy a pancake buffet on the morning of a big football game!
In the spring, we hold our annual letter writing campaign, “Sincerely Yours.” Each member of our chapter writes 50 letters to their family, friends, former teachers, and fellow students mentioning why we support St. Jude and asking for donations to aid in their fight against childhood cancer. Our second event that we host in the spring will be the 8th annual Coffee House and Desserts. We partner with the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon, and bring all you can eat desserts and an open mic night to life. Students from all over campus participate in Coffeehouse by performing and singing. We have included a new aspect to our event, the Art Room! We allow students from OU’s Art School to showcase their artwork as well as students from all over campus who showcase their own products such as t-shirts, hats, and bracelets to be promoted and sold at our event! Over 1,500 members of the OU community attended the event last year and supported St. Jude, an incredible accomplishment for our chapter.
In addition to supporting our campus and national philanthropies, we also love contributing to our alumni’s philanthropy in the annual event, Art with a Heart. This event showcases art from the patients of the OU Children’s Hospital. In preparation for this event, members of Tri Delta go to the hospital for Art Creation Days where they get to spend time with the children and help them create their master- pieces that will be auctioned off at the event. As the semester is progressing we look forward to continuing to emphasize the importance of giving back to the community through philanthropic events while continuing to build upon our values of sisterhood and friendship.
